Airline fares

I have found a good deal online for a ticket for my son’s upcoming visit. I do not know the rules of children traveling alone, Does he have to have a youth ticket?
I checked on Southwest airlines and they offer youth fares, I just didn’t know if it was necessary for all youths to get this kind of ticket or if it was just an option they offer.
Southwest’s website said that all youth fares must be purchased from the point of origin and the passenger must present proof of age. He doesn’t have a picture I.D. yet….I just didn’t know if this was for security reasons (to keep pervs from flying other people’s children across the country) or what.

When I fly anywhere I 75% of times fly from FAI to OTP. Fairbanks, Alaska to Otopeni Bucharest Romania.
What I have noticed so far that can get me lower fares is the following:
Fly in a period such as late february-middle of April(lower prices).
Fly on a Tuesday/Wednesday(lower prices).
Fly direct out of Seattle instead of going across USA first(lower prices).
Book 3-4 months in advance(best time for lower prices).
Fly on a traditionally not busy day. Ex: I flew out on December 25, got about $100 off the standard fare.
Use a site such as orbitz.com to search for 3 days before and after when preparing to fly.
Stay for at least 2 weeks to get the best fares.

It seems like airlines charge peak rates all the time, even if the plane is not full, or the season for going to a country is lean! This is most true if the intended flight is booked within 1 month from departure!

I’d like to know how airlines determine whether or not to raise their fares to Peak Rate, and how and when they decide to lower it back to Standard and Discounted Rate.

Anyone from the Airlines industry who can enlighten me?

Today, most of the major airlines have a website whereby you can book reservations online without going through complex phone menus or waiting on the terminal hold listening to bad music or dealing with the reservation agents. Many of the airlines even offer discounted fare for those who book online available through their website.

If you seek for your time and convenience then price is not much important but though a driving factor. While you make your airline reservation online you will be asked to fill an online application form with your personal details such as name and address and you have to select a username and password. Airlines such as the southwest provide convenience to its travelers with discounted airfares when they book it online.

General steps for online booking

1. You should go to the official website of the airlines such southwest airlines.

2. Next you have to click the reservations tab to start the online reservation process.

3. The standard reservation system will ask you to select your options regarding the place where you want to travel. It includes the departure and arrival place and return. It will also ask you for the time and date you plan to travel. Other information includes about the number of persons supposed to travel and lastly any discount code you have earned earlier.

4. Next you will be asked to select the departing and returning flight from a number of options available at that moment of time.

5. You will get special fares, restricted fares and refundable fares to choose from the given list. After you choose the flight and price you will be asked to apply for the online reservation if you accept all the conditions for the travel for fare types mentioned in the website and accordingly you can make purchase if you reside in US or out of US.
